"Government and Church"
What inspired me for this post was the terrible tragedy that happened in Colorado on July 20, 2012. The reason for this is because when I was watching the news report the reporter said "we are going to have to see what the government does." That sends me a message that the people of this country are relying more on the government rather than relying on God; the provider of everything!
What I am saying is why do we rely more on the government than we do on God? Where have we gone wrong? I know this is a very touchy subject but it needs to be discussed. We really do not need to give the government the responsibility that God has given to us as the church. But we ARE, we have allowed the government to take over that responsibility. In the Bible God tells us to trust in Him, but to also help those in need; not give that responsibility to the government.
OLD TESTAMENT
" The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the LORD will answer them; I, GOD of Israel, will not forsake them."
Isaiah 41:17
" He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?" declares the LORD."
Jeremiah 22:16
" Sing to the LORD! Give praise to the LORD! He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked." Jeremiah 20:13
NEW TESTAMENT
" The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of the sight for the blind, to release the oppressed." Luke 4:18
" But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind."
Luke 14:13
" If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." 1 John 3:17-18
In both the old and new testament; before, during, and after Jesus came to the earth. God is telling us, as the church to take care of the poor, the destitute and the needy. We all have the strength of God. Which is infinitely more than the government will or can ever have. We all need to take back the responsibility that God gave us rather than sitting back and allowing the government to do what God has called the church to do! If we all came together as a church we could get more done for this country and world. We would have more money than the government, and be more powerful to do this. We would not have to worry about them miss spending His money on things that do not matter; like their extremely large salaries. Why are we so scared to stand up and take on the call that God has given us? If everyone stood together, and with the strength of God we could change the world.
